LOUIS QUINZE

KRIS VERCRUYSSE

Kris Vercruysse is no ordinary painter, he invented his own technique: nail painting. Beneath each canvas lies a grid of nails that break the surface into textured, luminous dots. His work defies categorization—touching on pointillism, pop art, even Fontana, but remains uniquely his. Rooted in surrealism and graphic design, his compositions merge tactile form with visual rhythm.Since 2005, he’s turned this method toward figurative work, creating bold, icon-driven portraits: Frida Kahlo, Van Gogh, Che Guevar, rendered in electric colors and layered dots. The eyes demand perfection; he delivers. Every painting is singular, no mass production. He often destroys the stencil afterward to preserve that uniqueness.

His still lifes, like Vita Brevis, Ars Longa, explore time, memory, and mastery. Critics call it a trick, he calls it a challenge: take nails, paint, and canvas and make something that speaks. His art is about process, control, and rebellion.
